Salary to Hourly Calculator
Turn a salary into hourly, weekly, and monthly figures using your schedule instead of a hidden 2,080-hour shortcut.
Decision: If I work these hours, what is this salary worth per hour?
This tool runs in your browser. CareerPathMage does not send the numbers you enter to our servers.

How to read the result
The hourly figure is the salary spread across the hours you entered. It is not a recommendation to take or leave the job.
Calculated facts
Totals and break-even figures come only from the values on this page. They describe the math, not what you should do.
Decision factors
Fit, risk, time, and personal constraints stay outside the calculator. A higher cash figure can still be the wrong path.
Methodology
Regular hours are hours per week times weeks per year. Equivalent hourly is annual pay divided by all hours worked. If overtime is marked paid, overtime pay is added using (salary ÷ regular hours) × overtime hours × multiplier. Monthly is annual ÷ 12.
Assumptions
- Pay is gross, not take-home.
- Overtime is weekly and paid only when the switch is on.
Examples
Classic 2,080 conversion
$62,400 a year at 40 hours and 52 weeks is $30.00 an hour.
Longer week
The same $62,400 at 50 hours and 52 weeks is $24.00 an hour because the salary is spread over more time.
How to use it
- Enter the annual salary.
- Set hours per week and weeks per year to the schedule you actually work.
- Add overtime only if it is paid.
- Read hourly, weekly, monthly, and annual figures from the same inputs.
Limits
- Shift differentials, tips, and commissions are omitted unless you fold them into the salary.
- This is not legal advice about FLSA overtime status.
Questions
- Why not always divide by 2,080?
- 2,080 is 40 hours times 52 weeks. If you work 45 hours, take unpaid weeks, or have a school-year schedule, that shortcut misstates the hourly equivalent. Enter your hours and weeks.
- Is the result after tax?
- No. This is a gross-pay conversion. Withholding, benefits, and location taxes are outside the calculation.
- When should I turn overtime on?
- Only if that salaried job actually pays overtime. Many US salaried roles are overtime-exempt. The switch is off by default.
