Result
Remote keeps more cash.
Derived from the pay and extras you entered. Not a verdict on which lifestyle is better.
- Office extras
- $10,000.00
- Office after extras
- $60,000.00
- Remote extras
- $1,200.00
- Remote after extras
- $66,800.00
How to read the result
The higher net is more calculated cash after the extras you listed. Isolation, mentorship, and commute stress remain decision factors.
Calculated facts
Totals and break-even figures come only from the values on this page. They describe the math, not what you should do.
Decision factors
Fit, risk, time, and personal constraints stay outside the calculator. A higher cash figure can still be the wrong path.
Methodology
Work-arrangement cost is commute plus meals/extras plus home-office. Net after arrangement is annual pay minus that cost. The higher net is marked. Office days are contextual and do not generate costs by themselves.
Assumptions
- All costs are annual amounts you enter.
- No tax treatment of home offices is applied.
Examples
Office with a long commute
A $70,000 office job with $8,000 commute and $2,000 lunches nets $60,000. A $68,000 remote job with $1,200 home-office cost nets $66,800.
How to use it
- Enter pay and annual commute, meals/extras, and home-office costs for each arrangement.
- Optionally note office days as a reminder; they do not invent costs.
- Compare arrangement cost and net pay after those costs.
Limits
- Childcare, wardrobe, and city-size housing gaps are omitted unless you add them to extras.
- Not tax advice.
Questions
- What belongs in home-office cost?
- Internet upgrade, extra utilities, or equipment you would not buy otherwise. Do not invent a standard deduction.
- Can hybrid be modeled?
- Yes. Lower office-side commute and meals to the days you actually go in, and keep a partial home-office cost if you still work from home.
